This is Joe – find out how he came to stand on Platform 2 at Buxton Station.
The Friends of Buxton Station (FoBS) campaigned for the demolition of the former Traction Maintenance Depot (TMD) next to the station after witnessing some dangerous acts of vandalism and arson.
Before the demolition, FoBS sought permission to gather scrap metal from the building to allow a piece of public art to be made in commemoration of the TMD.
Buxton Artist, Andy Hill made the striking statue of a Railway Guard from the scrap provided. During a visit to Buxton in July 2016, he was given the name Joe by famous comedian, Alexei Sayle in honour of his Dad, Joseph Henry who was a lifelong Guard.
