Goytsclough Quarry

Edited by Ben Jones | Added on 6th March 2017

Now a quiet and unassuming spot, this small quarry was the beginning of Pickfords, the international storage and removal company. It is believed that its founder Thomas Pickford actually worked here in the mid-1600s, at the time of the English Civil War, and transported stone to London to pave Regent Street and Oxford Street in London.

Stone from Goytsclough was taken all over the country. The parking spaces that lie next to the road were once the area used for loading stone onto pack horses and wagons.
