Roman Wonders explores life in the Peak District under Roman occupation through objects in the Wonders of the Peak gallery and the handling collection. The Museum Experts resource provides a good starting point for an investigation into Roman life. This will allow pupils and teachers to explore what they know and what they think they know about the Roman invasion of the Peak District before going on to investigate further using sources and interpretations in the museum.
The Wonders of the Peak gallery has several objects dating from the Roman occupation of the area. Evidence of Roman settlement has been found around Buxton, Glossop and Brough although actual evidence of the Roman town of Aqua Arnemetiae, Buxton’s Roman name, has been hard to find.
