In 1822, Arkwright, Toplis and Co. converted the Cornerhouse building (now Avanti Jewellers) into a bank. This bank note, acquired by Buxton Museum, was issued by this bank. The son of the inventor and entrepreneur, Sir Richard Arkwright, Richard Arkwright Junior's interests lay mainly in banking, investment in Government bonds and the accumulation of land.
