Beaker found at Liffs Low, Biggin, around 4,500 years old.
This clay drinking cup is about 4,000 years old. It was found by a teenager in the 1930s, alongside the skeleton of a 35-year-old man.
The beaker is decorated with bands of triangles. The zig-zag pattern was applied by pressing a comb made from wood or bone into the clay before it dried. Researchers think the patterns identify different groups of people, so we may be able to recognise families or clans from the beakers they made.
At this time, a new culture was arriving in the Peak District from Europe, bringing different technology, including new ideas in farming, pot making and design.
