Your data

If you decide to register and use the Wonders of the Peak digital services, some personal data will be collected. Please take a few minutes to read the information below as it refers to your rights under the Data Protection Act and forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation. If you are younger than 16 years old, please read along with a parent or guardian and only continue with their permission.

During registration, you will need to provide your email address: we collect this to help ensure that each user account belongs to a unique person, and to allow you to retrieve your username and reset your password. We will not use your email address for marketing purposes or distribute your email address. In extreme circumstances, e.g. a data breach, where your privacy may be compromised we will use your email address to inform you. You will also provide a password when you register, but we will not store the password.

Additional data may be generated by you while you use the Wonders of the Peak services, including the Wonders that you save, like/dislike, and add to outdoor journeys, museum objects that you look-up, and periodic geolocation coordinates during an outdoor journey. This additional data is aggregated (i.e. combined with the same data types from other users) and presented in the form of simple headlines that are accessible only to the editors of Wonders of the Peak content, to help them improve the quality of the content. The editors cannot access the data in a form that is personally-identifiable.

Any data is transferred using secure communications (HTTP over TLS), and is processed and stored on a server located within the EU maintained by Ben Bedwell on behalf of Derbyshire County Council. You can contact Ben Bedwell via email at or Derbyshire County Council via this website's Contact Us page.

You will be able to delete your account at any time by visiting the My Wonders section of the website. This will erase the personally-identifiable data associated with your account.

Your password must be at least 8 characters long. These characters must come from at least four of the following groups: numbers, lowercase letters, uppercase (capital) letters, spaces, and special characters (?,!, ., etc.).

Try to choose a memorable username and password: you will need to use these to log in again in the future.
